Lyn Jones: Dragons' confidence is soaring
NEWPORT Gwent Dragons director of rugby Lyn Jones hailed the growing belief of his charges after their stunning derby win against the Scarlets.
The Dragons triumphed 23-16 in an engrossing RaboDirect Pro12 encounter at Rodney Parade, their first league win against their west Wales foes since New Year’s Day 2008.
Prop Phil Price and full-back Dan Evans crossed for tries and the kicking of fly-half Jason Tovey and wing Tom Prydie got them over the line.
The region won just six games and finished one from bottom last season but have already won twice this term to sit third in the early table.
“We were very, very pleased with the standard of play that we are putting together,” said Jones, whose side beat Ulster on opening weekend.
“We know we are not a complete side, and won’t be for a very long time, but at least we are starting to grow in belief and confidence.
“Experience is a wonderful thing and we had Toby Faletau at eight, Richie Rees at nine and Jason Tovey at 10. They are experienced players and they know when to (do things) and when not to.
“We are getting the balance right at the moment and if we are to achieve our goals, then achieving them on the back of victories makes life a lot easier.
“The challenge now is to go away from home and perform as well.”
The Dragons take on Munster in Cork next Saturday.
