Luc Jones gets Dragons Euro call-up
NEWPORT Gwent Dragons have named scrum-half Luc Jones, son of director of rugby Lyn, in their European squad.
The 19-year-old, who is currently playing for Bedwas in the Premiership, is in the region's extended 38-man squad for the Amlin Challenge Cup.
Jones has been training with the Dragons and will provide emergency back-up for Richie Rees, Jonathan Evans and Wayne Evans, who are all currently fit for selection.
The Dragons have also moved to cover openside by selecting 19-year-old Scott Matthews, who featured in the region's pre-season win against Bath and has been in good form for Cross Keys.
Tenacious flanker Darren Waters is unlikely to feature in the group stages of Europe after rupturing knee ligaments in pre-season.
Unlike the RaboDirect Pro12, players must be registered to the club and teams are not able to include those on permits.
The Dragons kick off their campaign on Friday against Italian part-timers Mogliano (kick-off 7.15pm) before a round-two encounter at pool favourites Bath, who open up with a trip to Bordeaux-Begles on Saturday.
