Dragons v Bath
This live event has finished
- Newport Gwent Dragons aim to prevent Bath from securing Pool Two top spot, a place in the quarter-finals of the Amlin Challenge Cup.
- Bath won 26-10 when the sides met at the Rec in October but the Dragons can take heart from a 23-20 pre-season win in Newport.
- Lyn Jones side have performed superbly at Rodney Parade this season with Ulster, the Scarlets, Cardiff Blues and Wasps among their victims. Only Leinster and Munster have left with the spoils.
- The English outfit are almost certain of a spot in the last eight as they need just two more points from today's clash and Thursday's home encounter with Bordeaux.
All over. Dragons 13 Bath 30. Men against boys, report coming shortly...
Still 30-13. More spirit being shown by the Dragons but the game was gone after 31 mins. Bath are just seeing this out.
Heathcote knocks over a penalty to stretch away - 30-13.
Steffan Jones adds the extras: Dragons 13 Bath 27.
Dragons try! Dan Evans makes a strong run and Nic Cudd follows up to score. That's better.
Back under way. I hope this improves...
Half-time: Dragons 6 Bath 27 and comfortably the worst 40 of the season by Lyn Jones' side.
Steffan J makes it 27-6 with a second penalty. 36 gone.
Coombs off again with a nose injury. Looks permanent this time.
Bonus point Bath. This is a shambles. Dragons are missing tackles and making awful decisions. They were creaking long before Leroy Houston charged over down the left.
If they don't get their act together then they will ship more than they did to Glasgow last season when battered 60-3 - and this is Bath's second string.
27-3 after 33.
The Dragons are a shambles defensively. Bath go over for their third with the hosts making a raft of bad decisions in defence. This is terrible. Mat Gilbert's try makes it 22-3 after 27 mins.
Steffan Jones gets the Dragons on the board. 15-3 after 25. Penalty won by a huge tackle by Pat Leach on Gav.
And now Prydie is down. This is turning into a horror show. He's going off with an injury to his right leg. Leach on with Wardle to the wing.
But Tovey off. THe fly-half is helped from the field after suffering a blow to the leg on a Henson crash ball. He is replaced by Steffan Jones.
Coombs back on.
BATH TRY. Devoto's kicks through and Biggs wins the race to the ball over the line. Awful, awful start. Conversion is wide. 15-0 after 15 and the hosts have been incredibly lethargic.
Dragons have been a bit too lateral in attack with Bath's defence dealing with them pretty comfortably. Prydie's looked sharp but the Dragons need a bit more oomph.
Quality start by Bath, who are really stretching the Dragons. Much more to their game than a strong scrum and driving lineout.
Heathcote has a chance to extend the lead after Biggs is tripped chasing a chip over the top... it's good. 10-0 after 10.
Coombs off, Screech on.
Try Bath! Poor defence by the Dragons. First Devoto busts through, then Dom Day does the same and after he was dragged down just short Micky Young darts over. Heathcote converts and it's 7-0 after 7 mins.
Prydie cuts a lovely line off Dan Evans but is tackled by the last man five metres short with his offload just eluding both Coombs and Faletau.
Coombs getting treatment after getting a heck of a blow making a tackle in the first minute.
Tom Heathcote gets us under way. Dragons attacking the North Terrace.
As for the Dragons, it's good to see Rees and Tovey back together at 9 & 10. Bit of a new back row with Talei resting an injury and Lewis Evans sitting it out. Wales pair Andrew Coombs and Tom Prydie return.
Bath have been superb in the Aviva Premiership but have rested a load of their big guns such as Abendanon, Eastmond, Ford, Hooper, Louw, Attwood among others. Nonetheless they boast a pretty strong line-up.
Plenty of Welsh interest in the Bath line-up with Paul James captaining them from loosehead, ex-Scarlets pair Dom Day and Mat Gilbert at lock and flanker respectively. Oh, and Gavin Henson at outside centre, perhaps a late charge for the Six Nations squad...
