NEWPORT Gwent Dragons wing Will Harries is relishing a "fresh start" away from Rodney Parade next season but first he wants to sign off in style.

The 26-year-old, who has been capped three times by Wales, is out of contract at the end of the season and will be heading for pastures new.

Harries signed from Northampton in 2009 following some eye-catching performances for Wales Sevens and is seventh on the region's list of top try scorers after crossing the whitewash 20 times in 88 appearances.

However, the Dragons have opted to go into next season with Aled Brew, Tom Prydie, Hallam Amos and Matthew Pewtner as their frontline options on the wing.

Harries, whose quick feet earned a first cap against New Zealand in the 2010 loss in Hamilton, has several irons in the fire.

"I'm not here next season and my agent is on the case," he said. "The Dragons have been good to me but it's always good to get a fresh start and I am looking forward to it.

"I've had quite a few seasons here and have gained a lot of experience but I think it'll be good for me to have a change of scene.

"I would like to stay in Wales but I'm keeping my options open."

In the mean time he has a job to do on the Dragons wing, starting against Newcastle in the LV= Cup this evening.

Harries and his fellow backs will be hoping for better weather than they endured against Northampton at Rodney Parade last week when a hailstorm temporarily forced the players to seek shelter in the changing rooms.

"Newcastle will be a typical English side with a big pack," he said. "I hope conditions will be better than last week so that we can play some running rugby.

"It was horrendous weather to play in against Northampton and as a wing you know that you won't be getting much ball.

"But if it's wet then we need to dig in and do the basics well, it is January so you can't expect too much!"

Harries may be off in the summer but he is desperate to impress against the Falcons so that he features prominently in the RaboDirect Pro12 run-in.

"Lyn (Jones, director of rugby) wants us to put in a good performance so that we can hit the ground running against Edinburgh," he said.

"Win or lose you do the same amount of analysis. There are still positives and negatives to your performance and you go through the same processes, but you are more confident after a win."
