The tail logo is horrid and dates from the abortive "Gwent Dragons" project. Shame the name isn't up for debate as neither Gwent nor Dragons actually exist.
Tell that to Gwent Police, Coleg Gwent, Gwent Camra. You are confusing where you live, ie GWENT with the name of the unitary body that provides your local government services, or doesn't as the case maybe.

Great move, always thought the bite from the front end of the Dragon would be a better logo than the phart from the rear.
You are right that people tend to confuse where they live with their local council. However I live in Monmouthshire, not Gwent.
Do you know your history? Gwent was the kingdom for thousands of years before Monmouthshire was even conceived. Whether Gwent is the current administrative name for the area now, who cares? It is and always will be an historic name for the area. Small mindedness won't help."

NEWPORT Gwent Dragons are giving their fans the opportunity to choose a new crest.

This evening the Rodney Parade region will open a web vote that will run until 5pm on Tuesday to decide the logo for next season.

The options are being kept under wraps until the site goes live but the region are making no changes to their name and the current tail design will remain in some form.

The alterations will be to the typeface and the emphasis – one logo will focus on Dragons, another on Newport and there will be a third hybrid option.

“It’s a brand refresh in that it’s not going to be massively different but it will set the tone for the direction that we are going next season,” said commercial and marketing consultant Ben Jeffreys.

The winning crest will be announced next Thursday and details of season tickets will be announced the following day with leaflets handed out at the final game on the season against Treviso on Saturday, May 10.
