TALENTED teenager Angus O’Brien is looking to make a big impact for the Newport Gwent Dragons after being named in the squad for the Premiership Rugby 7s tournament at The Stoop tomorrow night.

O’Brien is one of three changes to the squad that so nearly produced a clean sweep of victories over the Ospreys, Scarlets and Cardiff Blues in the Welsh leg of the competition on July 26.

Joining regular sevens names Rhys Jones, Sam Cross and Matthew Pewtner is Luke Morgan.

The Bridgend-born winger has recently returned from the Commonwealth Games with Wales and will take the place of injured Elliot Frewen.

Director of Rugby Lyn Jones takes over coaching duties from Nick Wakley, who is coaching in Sri Lanka this week, and he also brings in O’Brien and James Cordy-Redden.

The three players replaced are Frewen (hand), James Benjamin (shoulder) and Harri Keddie, who has commitments with the Wales under-18s squad.

It’s a good opportunity for 19-year-old fly-half O’Brien, who played 15 times for Cross Keys last season, to impress Jones.

“The boys did really well last week to make it to the finals,” said O’Brien. “It was a great performance from them and we’ll be taking it very seriously on Friday night.

“Unfortunately they didn’t get the win against the Blues but we’ll use that as inspiration now.

“Thankfully I’ve been drafted in for the finals and I’m hoping to make an impact.”

First up for the Dragons is quarter-final against Newcastle Falcons at 7.15pm and O’Brien is confident that the side can progress.

“Newcastle are obviously a strong outfit with a lot of experience and pace and skill,” he said. “But we’ve done our homework and we’re prepared.

“We’ll be taking it game by game but we want to go as far as we can and make a big impact on the tournament.”

The Falcons have also made three changes to their squad following call ups to the XV man squad's pre season fixture against Bayonne.

Sean Brown, Simon Hammersley and Lee Smith will all travel as part of a 25-man party to south west France and have been replaced in the sevens squad by Scott Lawson, Glen Young and James Christie.

Dragons squad: O’Brien, Jones, Davies, Lewis, Morgan, Pewtner, Jones, Thomas, Cordy-Redden, Hudd, Griffiths, Cross (c).

Falcons squad: Catterick (c), Christie, Davies, Harris, Lawson, Morris, Robinson, Temm, Tuilagi, Willis, Wilson, Young
