ALED Brew has pledged to keep knocking on the door for a Newport Gwent Dragons recall after blowing away the cobwebs following eight months on the sidelines.

The former Wales speedster made his Dragons return in pre-season after an injury-ravaged 2014/15 but is yet to be included for Guinness Pro12 action.

Nick Scott, a summer arrival from London Welsh, has started twice while Tom Prydie and Ashton Hewitt have slotted in down the right.

Brew has kept ticking along by playing for the Barbarians against Worcester and for Newport in their Principality Premiership derby with Ebbw Vale.

The 29-year-old was unable to match the success of his fellow left winger Jeremy Corbyn on Saturday but Brew enjoyed the hit-out in front of watching Dragons backs coach Shaun Connor.

And with the Rodney Parade region struggling to show a cutting edge in their two Pro12 encounters, the leading scorer in their history is hoping to force his way back in.

"I had a good run-out with the Barbarians and want to help Newport as best I can," said Brew, who made his Black and Ambers debut 14 years after his older brother Nathan.

"The Premiership is a good standard and unlike pre-season there is more pressure because you don't want to make mistakes that cost the team.

"It's good to go down to Newport to try and implement the things that I have been working on with the Dragons in the week and to try and help them get some wins.

"I am trying to blow away the cobwebs and keep the legs ticking over – you can train as much as you like but proper games are what any player wants.

"It didn't go to plan against Ebbw Vale but I hope to have another crack and keep pressing for a Dragons place."

With the Dragons not in action until visiting Leinster on Saturday, October 3 there is once again likely to be a sizeable contingent being sent out for Premiership duty.

Last weekend flanker Ollie Griffiths, centre Barney Nightingale, scrum-half Owen Davies and tighthead Alex Jeffries played alongside Brew while number eight Harri Keddie, scrum-half Luc Jones and hooker Rhys Buckley played for Ebbw.

Cross Keys gave action to full-back Geraint Rhys Jones, loosehead Luke Garrett, lock Scott Andrews and academy front rowers Ellis Shipp and Leon Brown in their home loss to Cardiff.

Locks Matthew Screech and Joe Davies, fly-half Angus O'Brien played for Bedwas in their defeat at Aberavon along with academy backs George Gasson and Connor Edwards.
