CAPTAIN Rynard Landman lamented a familiar tale as the travel sick Newport Gwent Dragons suffered another derby defeat out west against the Scarlets.

The Dragons suffered their fourth away loss of the season after shipping four tries to the Guinness Pro12 leaders, meaning their losing streak in Llanelli will stretch to nine years.

They scored two tries of their own through fly-half Jason Tovey and replacement scrum-half Sarel Pretorius but were flattered by the 25-15 scoreline after another error-strewn display.

“It’s down to individual responsibility, like we say every week, and all we can do is work hard. It’s Ulster next and it’s not going to get any easier,” said lock Landman.

“It’s the small stuff that we work on in training and every time it is the same thing. If improvements don’t happen them the coaches will have to get players in who can do the job because we are not just letting ourselves down but the fans.

“We were inaccurate in the set piece and if you go in with a kicking mindset then the lineout has to go with it to put pressure on the opposition, then turn pressure into points.

“Let’s just focus on Ulster – we haven’t given away a try so far this season at home and the scrum went well tonight so we have to sharpen up the lineout.

“If you want to be a contender – look at the All Blacks, Australia, Argentina, South Africa – they do the set piece well.”

Wales star Taulupe Faletau made his Dragons comeback after a difficult week in which the Welsh Rugby Union turned down his side’s request to sell him to Bath before his contract expires next summer.

The number eight wasn’t at his best and made some uncharacteristic handling mistakes but Landman hailed the return of their star player.

“He only came in on captain’s run (on Thursday) and was so focused on learning the calls. He is a top-class player and we are glad to have him back,” said the South African.
