AARON Warren has joined Newport Gwent Dragons on trial and gets a swift chance to impress in the British and Irish Cup opener at Connacht tomorrow afternoon, writes Chris Kirwan.

The 22-year-old wing has followed his older brother Adam east after starting the season superbly with Llandovery in the Principality Premiership.

The rapid Warren, who played three times for the Scarlets in the LV= Cup last season, has crossed for eight tries for the Drovers and will hope to catch the eye for the Dragons Premiership Select in their encounter in Galway.

The side will be captained by hooker Hugh Gustafson and the XV features nine other members of the senior squad at Rodney Parade – full-back Geraint Rhys Jones, centre Barney Nightingale, fly-half Angus O'Brien, scrum-half Luc Jones, props Luke Garrett and Lloyd Fairbrother, lock Scott Andrews and back row forwards James Benjamin and Harri Keddie.

Starts are given to Newport wing Elliot Frewen, Ebbw Vale centre Adam Jones, his clubmate Ashley Sweet at lock and Cross Keys flanker Scott Matthews.

The bench features Dragons captain Rhys Thomas as he returns from eight weeks out with a foot injury and he is joined by loosehead Richard Cornock (Keys), lock Adam Brown (Newport) and flanker Luke Crocker (Ebbw Vale) along with the young Dragons trio of tighthead Alex Jeffries, scrum-half Owen Davies and fly-half Arwel Robson.

Today's other group clash sees Jersey host Doncaster with the Yorkshiremen starting as favourites to top the pile after being runners-up in last season's tournament.
