HARRI Keddie is pursuing more game time at regional level after fulfilling a dream by making his Newport Gwent Dragons debut earlier this month.

The 19-year-old was given his first taste of Dragons action on the back of impressive displays in the Under-20s Six Nations, Principality Premiership and British & Irish Cup.

And there is still time for Keddie’s season to get even better, with the back rower set to play a big part in Wales’ push for glory at the World Rugby U20 Championship in Manchester.

Success there would complete a remarkable treble for Keddie following his Grand Slam joy with Wales and Premiership triumph as part of Ebbw Vale’s Grand Final-winning squad.

Reflecting on a hugely promising campaign, he said: “I obviously had a bit of experience in the British & Irish Cup and stuff like that which was nice, and then to get into the first team at the end of the season and make my debut was a dream of mine.

“The Dragons is all I’ve known in terms of club rugby and supporting them, so it felt amazing to finally get out there.

“It’s something I’ve wanted to do since I was about 12 years old and started playing rugby properly.”

Keddie, who made his Dragons’ bow as a second-half replacement in the region’s final Guinness Pro12 outing against Zebre, added: “I’d like to get more game time with the Dragons and establish myself a bit more.

“Now I’ve had a taste of it I want to try and move on as much as I can.

“It would be nice to keep racking up the performances and just do the best I can for the region.”

Having caught the eye with his explosive displays, Keddie has inevitably come to the attention of more people, but he is happy to “stay in the shadows a bit”.

“It’s harsh to single someone out because rugby is a sport where the team is the most important thing,” he said.

“You can’t do it by yourself, everyone is involved at both Ebbw Vale and Wales Under-20s.

“Both teams’ performances have been brilliant and made my job a lot easier.”
