Leinster 45 Dragons 25

First published in Dragons

NEWPORT Gwent Dragons suffered a 45-25 RaboDirect Pro12 loss to Leinster in Dublin this evening.

The Dragons trailed 26-13 at half-time and it looked grim when Fionn Carr scored the hosts’ fourth try with half an hour left.

However, the visitors struck back with wing Tom Prydie and full-back Dan Evans adding to Steffan Jones’ first half interception try.

They piled on the pressure in a bid to claim their own four-try bonus point but it was the European champions that struck a final blow when centre Brendan Macken picked off a pass to race over from 70 metres.

The Dragons, who won their opening fixture against Zebre, will attempt to get back to winning ways when they host Cardiff Blues next Saturday.

No real surprise, but a little disappointment. There was a time in this game when a try bonus point was there for the taking. Again we failed! Was the coach sat in the stand again? I don't know. What I do know is that good pros take their chances and they were fluffed. Is there any consolation in the poor form of the Blues/Ospreys? Not really. It is a long way back for top rugby in Newport/Gwent and we need to make small strides when they are there to be taken. 45-25 v Leinster 2nds - rubbish! (Although well done to Prydie and Evans. Keep your heads up!)

You say Leinster seconds as if that makes them an easy team to beat. They made a lot of changes from the team that lost in Llanelli. They don't have just 15 good players. They have a whole squad of them. That's why they're Heineken champions. On a positive note, we were unlucky not to have picked up 2 Bonus points. But, the boys have got to be hard on themselves for missing an opportunity. If we are gonna become a great team, like we could, and are building the infrastructure to do so, then the boys have to expect more and not fear anyone.

We made some changes as well so I'd have taken this beforehand. However can't help but feel a little disappointment as we should have had 2 bonus points but failed to take the opportunity in the last 10 mins of the game. Looking forward to the Blues game!

Well Well Well, same old story maybe people should look at the Coaches and People behind the scenes and aim the blame at them !!

Personally i would never take a loss regardless of any level or bonus point lost or won,

I feel sorry for the Fans of the Region and Club !!

I just wish I could be more optomistic about the rest of the season, but we have been here before and I doubt the ability of the Coach to raise the team to a level where they will claim these bonus points.

You can feel sorry all you want but sport will always have a winning team and a losing team. A lot of comments are based on realism. Of course everybody wants to see their team win every game but that will never happen. There are a lot of positives to take from the game considering we were low league finishers last season and they are hc champions and almost won the league.

Some mixed comments already posted but will the coach knockers please shut the hell up. The team was depleted with several players out through injury. We scored three try's one was an interception but they had an interception try as well so counting them out it was a fairly good performance considering the squad they have compared to the Dragons. Disappointing result yes but there are some good signs if people who seem to knock all the time would only look at. Prydy did well yet again and looks like a very good asset for the Dragons. Nemoe played well but ran the risk of a yellow thankfully he got away with it, but played well. We perhaps missed Dan's play in the middle but yet again the scrum held up reasonably well which perhaps a weak area last year may well be better this year, let's hope so.
