BEN Parry has a famous black and white jersey waiting to be framed after the Pontypool captain represented the Barbarians.

The 26-year-old hooker from Tranch played an hour for the Baa Baas in their 31-15 win against the Combined Services at the Rec in Bath.

The wet weather didn't dampen the spirits of a 6,357 crowd with the Barbarians taking the honours in the Remembrance Match thanks to tries by Worcester wing Josh Drauniniu, Cardiff flanker Jon Edwards, Exeter back row forward Charlie Walker-Blair and Heriot's prop Alan Brown.

"It was a fantastic occasion and a brilliant experience," said Parry, who earned a shot after impressing Baa Baas coach Phil Davies when the former Wales forward came in to help Pooler in pre-season.

"Being captain of Pontypool this season was a career highlight but this is the icing on the cake.

"There was a crowd of just over 6,000, which was a bit daunting but once I got the first carry under way the nerves went.

"We'd only had two 30-minute training sessions but it went fine in the end and it was good to get the win as well.

"It's the kind of opportunity that doesn't come around for many players and me and my family are so proud that I'm now part of the Barbarians history.

"I've got the jersey and that's something that I'll always cherish."

It is the second honour in a matter of weeks for Pooler as their wing Ashley Norton made a guest appearance for French giants Stade Francais in the Singapore Cricket Club 7s.

The 23-year-old helped the Parisians to the semi-finals after being invited to be a member of the squad by former Pontypool, Ebbw Vale and Newport utility back Nick Wakley, who is forging a career as a coach in the shortened format and took charge of Newport Gwent Dragons in the Premiership Rugby 7s.
