NEWPORT have suffered an injury blow as they attempt to climb off the bottom of the Principality Premiership with centre Dan Robinson set to be out of action until March.

The 28-year-old went for precautionary scans after coming off in the closing stages of last weekend's morale-boosting 11-10 Swalec Cup victory against Aberavon and they revealed a bulging disc in his back.

It is another midfield headache for the Black and Ambers, who are already without the injured Nathan Edwards and suspended Jamie Murphy.

Nonetheless, the mood has been brighter at Rodney Parade after their hard-fought win against the Wizards and they will now attempt to win back-to-back games for the first time this season.

They will have to be at their best against title hopefuls Carmarthen Quins, who were beaten 19-15 in a thriller at Ebbw Vale last weekend.

"Ebbw Vale stopped their flow and we have got to do similar in defence," said head coach Sven Cronk.

"The Quins have gone well in recent years and are a decent side, if you stand off them then they will ensure you have a long afternoon. We have to get off our line and put them under pressure.

"It was good to get the monkey off our back last weekend but we are under no illusions about how much work we have still got to do.

"We cannot afford to make as many errors as we did last weekend because we played well up to the final third when we just failed to hold onto the ball because of mistake after mistake."

Newport will hope that Dragons hooker Rhys Buckley, who made a solitary appearance for the club in 2012, adds some aggression around the park.

The 25-year-old is on the comeback trail after tearing his pectoral muscle and featured off the bench for the region against the Ospreys last weekend. He is not registered for the European Rugby Challenge Cup so will start at Rodney Parade.
