AFTER stunning one of the title contenders on their own tuft Bedwas attempt to cause another upset by turning over Principality Premiership champions Pontypridd at Bridge Field on Saturday, writes Chris Kirwan.

Bedwas are right back in the mix for the playoffs thanks to a tremendous 35-22 win against third-placed Carmarthen Quins out west.

They ran in four tries to move up to fifth, 10 points back on their hosts with a game in hand.

"It was very, very pleasing," said Steve Law. "We didn't make a good start and were 12-0 down early on but followed that with 70 minutes of quality, composed rugby and the scoreline flattered Carmarthen Quins in the end."

They will be looking for more of the same against a Ponty side who are looking to bounce back from a defeat to Bridgend, their first league loss of the season.

Bedwas were edged out 16-13 at Sardis Road in November, yet another case of close but no cigar against the champions.

"We've pushed Ponty close numerous times without quite getting the win," said Law. "They are the team that sets the standard for the Premiership but if we put in a big performance then we will certainly be in with a shout.

"After our win in Carmarthen confidence is high and we will look to put Ponty under pressure while trying to play our way rather than the sort of game they want.

"Everyone is fit and available so we are at full strength and excited by the challenge."

Ponty will be without Cardiff Blues pair Geraint Walsh and Seb Davies after they were injured playing for their region in the LV= Cup.

Utility back Walsh, Premiership player of 2013/14 fractured his arm, while Wales Under-20s lock Davies needs shoulder surgery.
