IT'S hard to imagine the Principality Premiership will witness many more one-sided games than this during the season. A depleted Neath team offered little in the way off opposition to Cross Keys and nothing for the few fans who had travelled East to watch the game to cheer.

A couple of early wayward kicks by outside half Ethan Davies were probably the only minor concerns that the home side’s coaching team had during the entire 80 minutes. As it was, it took the Keys just 8 minutes to get on the scoreboard, wing Nathan Trowbridge scoring the first of a hat-trick of tries on his 150th appearance for the club.

Trowbridge also set up the second try of the game, for his captain Leon Andrews, while Scott Matthews ensure that the glory wasn’t reserved for the backs, the flanker crossing for try number three as the Keys went into the interval leading 19-0.

The visiting supporters may have felt a glimmer of hope in the opening moments of the second half as their team tried to make it a little more of a match but when second row Alex Humphrey saw yellow four minutes after the restart and outside half Davies claimed his side’s fourth try the contest was most definitely over.

The truth be told, Neath never really looked like scoring. Their occasional visits to the Keys half all too often ended with basic errors ensuring that the Keys defence had one of the easiest days they can expect all season.

While Nathan Trowbridge added two more tries to his tally, tactical replacements off the Neath bench did little to improve matters for the visitors. As Cross Keys eased off the pressure Neath did venture into their half a little more often but never managed to threaten the try line.

When James Leadbeater’s conversion of Keys’ final try, scored by wing Elliott Jones following some woeful Neath defence, was immediately followed by the final whistle it must have come as a relief to the visitors.

Cross Keys could yet make it to the end of season play-offs. Neath must just yearn for the end of the season.
