YOUNGSTERS from Torfaen Tigers and Pill Harriers will be going for glory at the South Wales Grand Finals Day at Taff’s Well RFC on Sunday.

The Tigers and Harriers will hope to have lifted silverware by the time the seniors final between Aber Valley Wolves and Bridgend Blue Bulls gets under way at 3pm.

Torfaen have grown as a club and their youth coach Gavin Phillips is delighted to see that their under-15s have qualified for the final (kick-off midday).

He said: “The season has been a steep learning curve for the side that have improved as the season as worn on and will head into their under 16s campaign full of confidence having learned the game this season.

“Several players having gained representative honours this year with East Wales and several more destined for it in the future.”

Pill Harriers are best known for rugby union but their coach Brad Williams is delighted with their first foray into the 13-man game with the under-16s getting under way at 1.15pm.

“Pill have had a fantastic season this year with six players being named in the Wales team,” he said.

“Every player in the team has pushed for a spot in the squad for the final since day one but we’ve been very unlucky losing two boys for the majority of the season through injury.

“We’re pleased to have made finals day.”
