NEWPORT Gwent Dragons chief executive Stuart Davies hailed Monday's supporters' evening at Rodney Parade as a great success and has pledged to increase involvement with fans.

Davies and head coach Kingsley Jones held a Q&A in the Bisley Suite with the former outlining some of their off-field plans and the latter offering some on-field insight.

Around 200 supporters attended the evening and the chief executive, who on Wednesday evening will do the same for Newport RFC fans and shareholders alongside Black and Ambers chairman Will Godfrey, intends to repeat the exercise in the near future.

"It was really positive," said Davies, who gave some detail surrounding the board's plans to attract fresh investment and the potential transfer of shares from Newport RFC and the Welsh Rugby Union to new owners.

"I thought people were genuinely interested in what we are trying to do and it was helpful both ways, for us to hear views from the floor and for supporters to have it from the horse's mouth.

"It was a very informed audience with a lot of passion and interest. It was as good as I hoped it would be as an exercise, very worthwhile and we will definitely be doing periodically.

"There was genuine interest and a little bit of challenge as well, which keeps us on our toes. We are accountable."

"There motivation from within to shape what we are doing here but nothing will motivate more than what I experienced at Gloucester on Saturday," he continued.

"I was an emotional wreck at the end and that drives you on. Nobody has felt the frustration (of a disappointing Guinness Pro12 season) more than those of us on the inside because we went into the season genuinely feeling it would be breakthrough with the likes of Tyler Morgan, Hallam Amos, Jack Dixon, Elliot Dee, Ollie Griffiths coming through but we have hardly seen any of them. You have to then factor that in."

Along with the announcement of the signing of former Wales prop Craig Mitchell and contract extensions for a batch of talented youngsters, Davies revealed plans to establish a Dragons supporters club.

Fans were asked to register interest – there is a form on newportgwentdragons.com – and the Rodney Parade region intend to help establish a group over the summer before handing control over to supporters for it to be run from within.

"A supporters club is something that we should have in place and this is a starting point for that," said Davies.

"We don't have a body of supporters that we can routinely go to, consult with, engage with and discuss our thoughts about various things with.

"We've got the detail to pad out but we've got some great ideas on how we can use a supporters' club. They are done elsewhere and we should have one here."

The Newport RFC meeting takes place in the Bisley Suite, starting at 6.30pm on Wednesday.
