BEDWAS chief Steve Law will know his side must be ready for an Aberavon backlash tomorrow when they take on a team smarting from their first loss of the season.

The Wizards remained top of the Principality Premiership last weekend despite losing 22-15 to Cardiff in front of their own supporters at the Talbot Athletic Ground.

Jason Hyatt’s men could be joined at the summit tonight by RGC 1404 if the North Walians bag a bonus-point win over Cross Keys.

If that does happen then Aberavon’s clash with Bedwas at Bridge Field (1.30pm) gives them an immediate opportunity to pull clear again.

However, Hyatt’s charges will also be going up against a side coming off the back of a loss, so they too can expect a response from the hosts.

There was a sense of frustration around Bridge Field last Saturday when Bedwas could only muster a losing bonus point at the end of a 23-17 reverse against Carmarthen Quins.

Bedwas are still well placed in fourth, although just six points separate them and 10th-placed Bridgend – the top eight clubs will make the January split.

Elsewhere tomorrow, Bargoed head south to the capital for a showdown with mid-table Cardiff (kick-off noon).

Keys got the better of Steve Barber’s troops at Bargoed Park in the last round of fixtures, with a late penalty try giving the visitors the win.

That denied Bargoed the chance of adding to their sole success of the season, which came on September 17 when they beat Swansea 29-9 at home.

Although they have won half of their eight games to date, Cardiff could easily be sitting with a 100 per cent record.

In the four matches they have lost, the side coached by Duane Goodfield haven’t been beaten by more than a converted try in any of them.
