NIGEL Davies reckons his Ebbw Vale side can take heart from Aberavon’s last two results, as the two teams prepare to go into battle tonight.

The Wizards won their first seven games of the Principality Premiership season, before losing to Cardiff and then drawing with Bedwas.

An Ebbw team hit by injuries moved up to fourth in the table last weekend thanks to a bonus-point victory over Carmarthen Quins.

And the Steelmen could move to within a point of Jason Hyatt’s league leaders at the Talbot Athletic Ground (kick-off 7.15pm).

Their display in the 40-20 defeat of the Quins pleased head coach Davies no end, and he wants more of the same tonight.

“It was a very good performance by us,” said Davies. “We’ve got quite a lot of injuries and the strength of our squad was tested.

“I thought the boys performed fantastically and they took on board a lot of the stuff we’ve been talking about.

“It was one of our best performances of the season along with the win at Pontypridd.

“The challenge for us is to keep the momentum going and keep putting in consistent performances.”

He added: “It’s going to be a tough one against Aberavon. They have done exceptionally well this year and have got one of the strongest squads in the league.

“The last couple of games haven’t gone the way they would have liked and we’ve got to look at those as an opportunity for us.

“The pressure will be on them to get a result at home.”
