EBBW Vale will look to put the frustration of last weekend’s loss to Bedwas behind them tonight, as they bid to make their mark on the Principality Premiership’s top tier.

Aberavon, league leaders at the end of the regular season on January 7, are the visitors to Eugene Cross Park (kick-off 7.30pm), six days after the Steelmen were toppled by Bedwas at home.

The Wizards’ opening tier one game with Llandovery was postponed, though whether that benefits them or not remains to be seen.

As for Ebbw, the 15-12 Bedwas loss was a blow to their hopes of making the play-offs, however there are still plenty of points up for grabs in the next six fixtures.

And, the performance against Steve Law’s charges wasn’t one head coach Nigel Davies was disheartened by, with the hosts dominating territory and possession but coming up short.

“The result was hugely frustrating,” said Davies. “I thought we did enough to win the game.

“We controlled the match and should have converted a few more of our chances.

“The main difference was Richard Powell who converted all his kicks from everywhere on the park.”

He added: “I wasn’t downhearted at all, it was just very frustrating, but I expect us to bounce back from that result.

“It is very frustrating when you put in a performance like we did against Bedwas and don’t get the result.

“All of the games are going to be tight so we need to be more clinical when we get opportunities.”

With players coming back from injury and fresh faces at the club, Ebbw have a very different squad now to that Davies had at the start of the season.

“I expect us to improve from now on,” he added.

“What we’ve got to do is provide a certain level of consistency so the players become more comfortable with each other.”
