BEDWAS chief Steve Law says his side must target a top-two finish in tier one of the Principality Premiership to give themselves every chance of play-off glory.

The Bridge Field outfit sit third in the table with two matches of the regular season left and can secure a place in the end-of-term play-offs tom-orrow when they host Pontypridd (kick-off 5.15pm).

While the campaign will go on for the four best teams when the full-time whistles blow around the grounds on May 6, only those finishing first and second get home advantage in the play-offs.

Leaders Merthyr and Aberavon, who meet at the Wern tomorrow, currently occupy those positions but Bedwas are just two points off the summit.

In Pontypridd, Law’s men face a side on a three-game losing streak, the most recent of those coming in the WRU National Cup final against RGC 1404.

Pontypridd, four points behind Bedwas in fourth spot, face a huge battle to make the play-offs if they lose this weekend and Ebbw Vale beat Llandovery.

Given the Sardis Road club’s excellent record in the Premiership over recent seasons it would be a big shock if they missed out.

“This game has quite a bit on it with regards to league positions and qualifying for the play-offs,” said Law, who guided his side to the Foster’s Challenge Cup on April 1.

“We’ve been working the boys hard in training over the last few weeks and really cracking the whip because we want to keep our good form going.

“One more win will definitely put us in the play-offs but finishing in the top two and getting a home draw in the semi-finals is really important.”
