DRAGONS duo Lloyd Lewis and Barney Nightingale have been named in the Wales squad for this weekend’s Elche 7s invitational tournament in Spain.

Winger Lewis and centre Nightingale, who is on a dual contract with Cross Keys, have been selected for the competition in Spain that is a tune-up for the World Rugby Sevens Series.

Speedster Lewis, 21, has played in five tournaments on the circuit while it is 20-year-old Nightingale’s first selection for the seniors.

The duo join Wales sevens regulars Ethan Davies, from Pontypool, and Ben Roach, who has been on trial with the Dragons, in the squad for Spain.

Head coach Gareth Williams said: “The cooperation of the regions continues and it is great to be able to expose some new players to match day scenarios against some well-established teams this weekend.

“The trip to Elche represents the start of the next phase of our training and the boys are eager to get on to the pitch and put the initial eight weeks of work to the test.”

Wales will lock horns with Russia, Ireland and France as they prepare for the opening round of the World Series in Dubai on the first weekend of December.

Williams is without captain Sam Cross after the flanker was a shock inclusion in Warren Gatland’s squad for the autumn internationals.
