NEW Ebbw Vale chief Greg Woods has finalised his coaching team after arriving at Eugene Cross Park from Cross Keys.

Steelmen centre James Lewis will take on the role of backs and attack coach while remaining an option for Woods on the pitch.

Lewis has a wealth of experience in the game, including previous spells with Bedwas, Cardiff, London Welsh and Wales Sevens.

Ashley Sweet, who joined the coaching staff this season, will continue to coach the lineout and add the responsibility for the defence to his duties.

Second row Sweet hopes to return to the field before the end of the current campaign following his recent back injury and subsequent operation.

Finally, Lewis Roberts, a former player and Ebbw’s strength and conditioning Coach for the last five seasons, will also be the new skills coach.

Meanwhile, there have been several new arrivals at the club in recent weeks, as well as a few departures.

Back row forwards Lewis Young and Ben Papp come in from Aberdare and Usk respectively, with the former re-joining the Steelmen following a spell with his hometown club.

His first stint at Eugene Cross Park was interrupted by injury but Lewis has impressed in the last three games, all of which the Steelmen have won.

Papp is a former Usk captain who has joined on a full-time basis after impressing when covering for injuries.

The Ebbw faithful will also get to see Dragons forward Gerard Ellis in their club’s colours as he spends time with Woods’ men continuing his conversion from hooker to loosehead.

Leaving the Steelmen is prop Ian George who has joined Pontypridd in pursuit of first XV rugby.

Injuries limited his game time at Ebbw this season and he has decided to move to Sardis Road.

On the injury front, Josh Jacas is set to undergo surgery soon to remove screws from his ankle and hopes to be back playing in early February.

Openside Owen Jones is recovering from a knee injury and is setting his sights on a return in March, while Jon Davies back has a similar target following a shoulder injury.
