Jones has chance to make his point to the Dragons
STEFFAN Jones will be looking to show the Newport Gwent Dragons what they are missing when he turns out for his old club this afternoon.
The outside half was a surprise omission from the region’s squad taking on Connacht at Galway this evening in the RaboDirect PRO 12.
But the region’s loss is Cross Keys’ gain, the 22-year-old selected in the more unfamiliar full back shirt for the Pandy Park side today.
This afternoon’s encounter at home against a handy Llanelli side should be a cracker, pitting the fifth-placed hosts against the third in the table visitors.
Dorian Jones holds on to the No 10 jersey for Keys after a fine performance at fly half in last week’s excellent 29-9 bonus point win over Newport.
The Llanelli side includes former Pandy Park favourite in lock Lewis Rawlins who is selected as blindside flanker.
The Black and Ambers will be looking to put that disappointment away at Keys firmly behind them when they entertain Llandovery at Rodney Parade.
After five successes on the bounce in recent times, Newport are now winless in five.
And with only one try scored in five matches, having the services of former fans’ favourite Mike Poole is a major plus.
The Dragons wing has a prolific scoring record for the club with 48 tries coming from 104 appearances.
The hosts are also boosted by the return of back rower Ross Coombs who returns after recovering from his knee operation.
