NEWPORT slumped to their third defeat in four Principality Premiership games after Cardiff did the league double over them with a win at Rodney Parade.
The Black and Ambers, for the second week, running failed to even get a losing bonus point from a game they hosted.
Rory Budina got a try for the home side while Geraint O’Driscoll kicked two penalties but their biggest rivals won the day, scoring three converted tries.
