BUOYANT Bedwas will look to show the same fighting spirit that earned a derby success when they welcome Aberavon to Bridge Field tomorrow afternoon.

Last weekend they looked set for a third consecutive defeat of the season when trailing Cross Keys 22-6 in the second half at Pandy Park.

But Bedwas came storming back to take the spoils 29-25 with fly-half Richard Powell scoring 24 points behind a strong scrum.

Head coach Steve Law says the success have given morale a timely boost ahead of the clash with the Wizards, who they doubled last season.

"To come back after being dead and buried was very pleasing and the team showed a lot of character," he said.

"We've got a lot of potential and hopefully that win will give the boys a bit of a lift because it's no good when you are competitive in games but are losing, we are in a results business.

"We've got two home games against Aberavon and Carmarthen Quins now and we have to be positive in them.

"Aberavon look like a very good side, to go away to Llandovery and only lose by three points (13-10) shows that they are improving.

"We won't change our game for them and we will have a similar approach as we did for Keys, but we just need to execute a bit better and cut out the fundamental defensive mistakes that have been costing us."

Bedwas are waiting to hear if they will have the services of influential back row/lock James Thomas as he may be required by Newport Gwent Dragons against Treviso on Sunday as the region are short of second row options.

If he is needed at Rodney Parade then Alwyn Lee will move to the back row with Josh Walker coming in at lock.

Scrum-half Tom Rowlands is set to make his first start since April, 2013 after missing the whole of last season because of an ankle injury. The 23-year-old came off the bench against Newport and Keys, scoring a try at Pandy Park.

Mike Callow, who featured for the club in the Foster's National Sevens, is likely to make a debut in midfield.
