NEWPORT Gwent Dragons boss Lyn Jones is ready to throw Jack Dixon straight back into the mix against the Scarlets on Friday evening after the young centre's World Cup disappointment, writes Chris Kirwan

The 20-year-old from Newbridge was released from the Wales squad last week after taking part in the training camps in Switzerland, Qatar and Colwyn Bay.

The cut wasn't a great surprise as Dixon is seen as one for the future and is battling in a strong midfield department.

He didn't win a first cap in the warm-up Test against Ireland at the Millennium Stadium at the start of the month so, after two months of toil, is poised to enjoy match action for the first time since May 16 when the Dragons host their west Wales rivals (kick-off 7.15pm).

"Jack has been training, training, training and has had enough of that, he just needs rugby," said director of rugby Jones. "The conditioning he needs now is on this 100m by 70m paddock.

"Jack is just unfortunate that there is a lot of competition in front of him (with Wales) but it was still a very positive experience for him to be in that environment."

Jones is preparing to welcome Dixon back into the mix but the director of rugby doesn't expect to have the services of burgeoning backs Hallam Amos and Tyler Morgan.

The nationally-contracted pair, aged 20 and 19 respectively, started against Ireland at the Millennium Stadium and survived Warren Gatland's first cut.

"I'd be very surprised if Hallam and Tyler don't make it," said Jones. "They are quality rugby players.

"Hallam is the best left wing playing in Wales by a mile and Tyler is definitely on the bus because he can do something different.

"I am sure Rob (Howley, backs coach) and the Wales coaches will have witnessed that from last season and from training. He can do something different and you just need that sometimes."

The Dragons triumphed 48-12 in their first pre-season fixture against Nottingham in Ystrad Mynach last Friday.
