CROSS Keys have pledged to stay level-headed as they attempt to back up a morale-boosting success against Llanelli at Pandy Park, writes Chris Kirwan.

Keys are tipped to be leading contenders to challenge Principality Premiership champions Pontypridd but endured a frustrating opening to the campaign.

They threw away a commanding lead at Llandovery then wasted chances galore when suffering a home loss to Cardiff.

The Pandy Park side responded last week with an impressive 50-18 derby win at Bedwas thanks to tries by fly-half Ethan Davies (2), flanker Scott Matthews, number eight Adam Powell, centre Leon Andrews, loosehead Luke Garrett and lock Tom Lampard.

But Keys, beaten by Ebbw Vale in the semi-finals of the play-offs last season, aren't getting carried away after the slick display at a notoriously tricky ground.

"It was really pleasing but we don't want to get too high after wins or too low after defeats," said head coach Greg Woods.

"There wasn't a great deal if difference in performance from the one at Bedwas and the one against Cardiff but this time we took our chances.

"The set piece was excellent again and we looked clinical and sharper with the ball. It was good to get up and running but we just need to be level-headed.

"The plan was always to review where we are after six games and that hasn't changed, so it's important to put in another good performance against Llanelli."

The vistors have endured a tough start with losses to Pontypridd (68-32), Llandovery (32-8) and Cardiff (30-24).

Keys did the league double over Llanelli last season in addition to a Swalec Cup success, racking up 139 points in the three encounters, but Woods isn't taking them lightly.

"They've been unlucky so far and have quality players in the spine of their side," he said.

"They will be galvanises by going for their first win after going close against Cardiff while the pressure is on us at home after losing our first game here and with Bridgend to come next week."

Keys are unlikely to make dramatic changes to the squad that triumphed at Bridge Field.
