LYN Jones has demanded that Newport Gwent Dragons banish their European embarrassment by beating Leinster in the Guinness Pro12 tonight.

Both sides are attempting to fightback from European humblings at Rodney Parade (kick-off 7.05pm), the Irish province from a 51-10 Champions Cup thrashing at Wasps and the Dragons from a 38-5 drubbing in their Challenge Cup group decider at Sale.

That loss in the north west of England means they go on their travels to Gloucester in the quarter-finals rather than enjoying home advantage and the nature of the defeat means a response in necessary in front of their own fans.

"We are doubly-focused to go back to the standard of play that we put together in defeating Castres at Rodney Parade the previous week," said Jones.

"There is no getting away from the disappointment of Sale. We want to get back on the field because there is a huge amount of embarrassment among players and coaches after what went on.

"It happens in sport but it's our job to ensure it doesn't continue. We want to move away from that against Leinster, ensuring the good form from Europe is transferred to the league.

"I praised the players after Castres because that first half was as good as any performance by Newport Gwent Dragons, it was that good, but then you go to the other extreme the following week.

"That is mind-blowing and the challenges we are faced with. This is a natural action for a developing group, you will get those peaks showing their potential but unfortunately the opposite can happen as well where under stress they revert to norm."

The Dragons are languishing in 11th in the Pro12 and need to string together some wins, starting against a Leinster side who are second and pushing for the playoffs but have been hard hit by international calls.

"I don't know what shape Leinster will be and it's none of my interest – I am interested in how we perform and what we do," said Jones. "If we are in control of our game and our attitude then it doesn't matter what is in front of us.

"It was only 12 months ago I was telling the world what fantastic a club they are in that they have their academy sorted and structured to stream a phenomenal amount of talent through Dublin. We all know they had a 50-pointer and are hurting themselves."

The Dragons have performed well on home soil this season with six wins from eight while they have shipped just three league tries in Newport.
