LOCK Rynard Landman hopes to make up for a nightmare moment when Newport Gwent Dragons take on Ulster in Belfast on Friday evening.

The Dragons made it seven wins from nine games at Rodney Parade this season when they beat Guinness Pro12 title hopefuls Leinster last Friday.

Landman played his part with a dynamic display as a makeshift back row forward and recorded an assist when he offloaded out of the tackle to put Jason Tovey over for a first half try.

It was a situation that brought memories flooding back from a rare disappointment on home soil against Ulster in November when the South African ignored men outside him only to be held up over the line at the death.

Their performance had deserved a victory let alone a share of the spoils and they head to Ravenhill looking to avenge the 19-12 loss.

"That's one that we should have won and I should have passed at the end," said Landman. "The boys outside me got flashes of that game when I took it up against Leinster but luckily I got it away!

"We need to correct what happened against Ulster because we threw it away. We are chasing an 80-minute performance on Friday."

The Dragons head over to Belfast in fine fettle thanks to their dogged display against Leinster, when they absorbed incredible pressure on their line in awful conditions to take the spoils.

Landman believes it was the perfect reaction to their European Challenge Cup shocker at Sale when the Aviva Premiership side dished out a 38-5 hammering to take Pool Two top spot.

"What a difference a week makes," said the lock, who took over as captain when Rhys Thomas limped off with a leg injury.

"We played in the right areas in the first half then in the second half the boys showed a lot of guts when Leinster were hammering away at our try line. We didn't give a score away and the belief went up.

"They came around the corner hard and you can easily fall down and leak tries but that didn't happen, which shows the character of the boys.

"Ulster are always tough at home so we need to be 100 per cent on Friday and fire on all 12 cylinders."
