WALES wing Hallam Amos knows the Dragons have to find their cutting edge if they are to end a 14-game losing streak in Friday’s ‘massive’ Guinness PRO14 clash with Connacht at Rodney Parade.

Bernard Jackman’s side entertain the Irish province in Newport (kick-off 7.30pm) on the back of league losses to Leinster and Edinburgh.

They have shipped nine tries and have not yet crossed the line themselves with their sole seven-pointer coming against the Dubliners courtesy of a penalty try for a high tackle on wing Ashton Hewitt.

The Dragons showed signs of attacking spark in Scotland with Hewitt beating nine defenders, the most by any player in the weekend of PRO14 action, and Amos and centre Tyler Morgan making three clean breaks each.

However, Amos knows they need to be more ruthless if they are to enjoy a first success in any competition since beating Enisei-STM on January 13

“Our attack is coming together and we made a few breaks but we’ve still got to finish our chances,” said the 22-year-old from Cross Ash.

“We had a penalty try against Leinster and didn’t have any against Edinburgh – that’s not good enough. We are creating opportunities but we have to score some of them.

“It is only week two and our attack is starting to come along; it was more of a 60-minute performance in Edinburgh after a 40-minute one the week before.

“Now we need to go flying into Connacht because our home ground should be a fortress and we fully believe that win is coming. It’s a massive game for us.”

Arguably Amos should have been the provider of a well-crafted try for number eight Harri Keddie last week but the TMO deemed the winger’s foot had brushed the touchline.

To the Wales speedster’s frustration, the Dragons didn’t get the benefit of doubt when referee Stuart Berry and his touch judge had been happy to award a try.

“I’ve seen the photos and it was close,” said Amos. “They say it’s a game of inches and at home maybe we would have been given the try. It just shows how close we are and it’s one of those things.”

Amos is back in the 11 jersey after a frustrating 2016/17 in which he played just six times for the Dragons.

He needed a shoulder operation after suffering a blow when attempting to score for Wales against Australia in November and despite being close to a comeback in the run-in, never quite got the green light from the medics.

The 11-times capped winger now has increased competition for a Test spot with Scarlets livewire Steff Evans joining Leigh Halfpenny, George North, Liam Williams and Alex Cuthbert as a back three options.

And dual-contracted Amos hopes that a run of games for the Dragons can help him get back to top form to provide Warren Gatland with a selection headache.

“It was a long nine months and I am still not fully where I want to be yet, there is still some way to go,” he admitted.

“But from a confidence point of view it was good to get another 80 minutes under my belt in Edinburgh and I can’t wait to get back out there again.”
