EBBW Vale may be running in tries for fun but Newbridge have matched their fine start to the Championship campaign.

Like the Steelmen, the Welfare Ground outfit have earned ten points from ten thanks to bonus point wins against Llanharan and Glamorgan Wanderers.

This afternoon they attempt to make it three successes from three when they travel to Narberth.

The west Walians were thrashed by Ebbw at Eugene Cross Park last weekend but will be a different proposition on their own turf.

“We are very pleased with the start that we have made and the new additions have settled in nicely but it’s still early on and we need to keep building,” said team manager Darryl Williams.

“From what we have heard Narberth have a decent set of forwards and if we don’t get it right then we are in for a tough afternoon.

“It’s a new challenge for us and an exciting one.

“It’s nice to return to a national championship and it is new territory for a lot of the boys with longer journeys and different brands of rugby in the west.

“But we head there with confidence after a good win at Llanharan that could have been more comfortable had we been more clinical and a very pleasing result against the Wanderers.”

It promises to be a riveting encounter when Tata Steel host the Steelmen of Ebbw Vale.

Ebbw have crossed the whitewash 18 times in their wins against the Wanderers and Narberth.

Confidence should be high for today’s trip to Port Talbot, but head coach Neil Edwards won’t allow any complacency against a Tata side that turned over Pontypool last week.

Pooler’s start to life in the Championship has, as expected, been tough.

A home loss to Beddau on opening weekend was followed by the loss at Tata Steel and things don’t get any easier.

Today they welcome Bargoed – who are two from two and expected to be among the title challengers – to Pontypool Park.

Blackwood were disappointed to suffer a home defeat to Llanharan last week, a loss that took the gloss off a hard-earned opening day win at Cardiff Met.

But they have a golden opportunity to get back on the horse today with an away fixture against a Glamorgan Wanderers side that are tipped to be the Championship whipping boys.

Blackwood should make it a Gwent hat-trick following Ebbw Vale and Newbridge wins against the side from Ely.
