NEWPORT Gwent Dragons skipper Lewis Evans hopes that the pack can continue to get a kick out of their young backs against the Scarlets on Friday.

The region ended a three-game RaboDirect Pro12 losing streak when they dispatched Edinburgh 32-12 at Rodney Parade last week.

They may not have quite had the spark they have shown previously this term but they put the boot into the Scots, who scored two tries to the Dragons’ one.

Wing Tom Prydie helped himself to 18 points with six penalties, with a failed conversion attempt his only miss from the tee, while fly-half Steffan Jones became the first Dragon to knock over three drop goals in a game.

Added to that, the region kicked well out of hand with full-back Dan Evans striking some accurate touch-finders to give his side a foothold after a shaky start.

“It’s really satisfying when you look up from a scrum and your opposition is 40 yards back on their hind foot,” said flanker Evans.

“In the past perhaps we could have been criticised for our game management but Steffan was outstanding.

“We didn’t have the game plan to kick as much as we did but both Steffan and Tom turned up with their kicking boots on.

“We wanted to put Edin-burgh under pressure with our attack and instead of it leading to tries it led to their indiscipline and penalties – you’ve just got to take the points when they come.”
