WALES Under-20s want to create their second piece of history in the Junior World Championship on Friday.

Danny Wilson’s young guns became the first side to ever beat New Zealand in the tournament in the pool stages but were unable to repeat that stunning victory in Sunday’s semi-final.

They were overpowered by the Baby Blacks 30-6 and will now face Argentina, who were beaten by South Africa, in the bronze final.

If they can win at Newlands then they will better the fourth-placed finish of Sam Warburton’s 2008 side.

“To end third in the tournament and third in the world would be a hell of an achievement,” said former Dragons forwards coach Wilson.

“There is a lot to play for and the Argentina game is one that we are very motivated for.

“We need to recover, choose our strongest team and give it our best.”

Wilson was slightly disappointed with the performance in the loss to New Zealand, who were far more clinical than Wales in a four tries to none victory.

“I don’t think we performed with anywhere near the accuracy that we showed previously in this tournament,” said the head coach.

“That might have a lot to do with New Zealand and the pressure they put on us, especially at the breakdown.

“But we looked a little bit afraid to play in the first half and perhaps kicked away too much ball. We tried to play a bit more in the second half but the accuracy just was not there.”

Captain Kirby Myhill believes there is no time for wallowing after the semi-final disappointment.

“We dug in till the end, I thought we played well the first 10 minutes but after that our play in the contact area let us down,” said the Scarlets hooker.

“But we could still end up in third place and that is something that has never been done by a Welsh team, so that’s what we are striving for.”
