The Newport Hornets will start a weekend of Speedway in South Wales tonight when they face the Scunthorpe Saints in National League action with tapes up at Queensway Meadows from 7pm.
The following afternoon at 5pm the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff is the venue of the British Grand Prix - the latest round of the World Speedway Championship.
Then hordes of speedway fans from far and wide will descend on Newport Speedway for the staging of the South Wales Argus Welsh Open Championship from 1pm.
The Hornets go into tomorrow’s evening encounter against their visitors from Lincolnshire on the back of an excellent away victory in Suffolk last Sunday when they defeated the Mildenhall Fen Tigers by 52 points to 42 despite having a depleted team with the absence of Sam Hurst and Grant Tregoning.
Veteran skipper Tony Atkin finished with a five ride paid maximum while 16-year-old Aussie newcomer Todd Kurtz finished with 16 points from seven starts.
Considering that four of the Hornets septet are in their first season in British Speedway then they are doing well and Newport Speedway has definite talent in its younger ranks.
For the Saints Simon Lambert doubles up with Scunthorpe's Premier League team - the Scorpions - while skipper Byron Bekker has also had a sustained run with the senior squad too. Like Newport the Scunthorpe promotion have a definite youth policy and are brimming with up and coming newcomers too.
NEWPORT HORNETS: Tony Atkin (C), Ryan Sedgemen, Karl Mason, Sam Hurst, Grant Tregoning, Shelby Rutherford, Todd Kurtz SCUNTHORPE SAINTS: Simon Lambert, Adam Wrathall, Richard Franklin, Byron Bekker, Scott Richardson, John McPhail, Ashley Morris Admission prices are: £8 adults, £5 concessions and Kids for a quid. (Aged 5 to 16).
