POLISH rider Marek Mroz is to return to Newport and will line up at number six with a 3.50 average at Queensway Meadows on Sunday when reigning Premier League champions the Edinburgh Monarchs visit with tapes up at 5pm.
Marek started in 2008 with the Wasps but the season was suddenly curtailed with the death of former promoter Tim Stone in late April.
Marek subsequently rode for the Mildenhall Fen Tigers under the team management of Laurence Rogers, now the Wasps joint team boss.
He started this campaign with the Birmingham Brummies.
Commenting on the signing Rogers explained: “Marek had to ride at either number one or number three in 2008 and that’s a tough call.
“His move to reserve is good news for both club and rider and everyone knows that Marek will get stuck in and get among the points once the tapes rise on heat two on Sunday.”
Club owner Steve Mallett added: “We have tried to be fair to riders in our National League squad and other assets, but we will benefit from having another rider alongside James Holder in the reserve berth who can score points at home and away.
“We shook the team up last week and had a more than reasonable weekend for performance and results over three days of Premier League fixtures.
“Marek is the final piece of the jigsaw in endeavouring to continue our move up the league table.”
