Scunthorpe Scorpions 46 Newport Wasps 44.

NEWPORT Mike Manning Audio Wasps are sweating on the fitness of Robin Aspegren for Saturday night's home British Premier League meeting against Scunthorpe - tapes up at Queensway Meadows Stadium at 7.00pm.

The Wasps lost Aspegren to injury after the popular Swede withdrew before the start of heat seven, having come to grief in an accidental collision with team-mate Jason Doyle in race three.

If Aspegren does miss the quick-fire return with the Lincolnshire outfit, then Wasps will certainly want him for next weekend's two-legged BPL Knockout Cup final against Glasgow Tigers.

The Wasps were in contention of gaining a win until a 5-1 for Scunthorpe in the penultimate heat 14 ended that hope.

The final race began with Scunthorpe 45-39 ahead and with Wasps pair Charlie Gjedde and Jason Doyle up against Michael Palm Toft and David Howe.

If the Wasps duo could do well and produce a heat win, then their side would pick up a match point.

And so it proved as Gjedde and Doyle posted a 5-1 of their own and the Wasps will be red-hot favourites now to continue their fine home form against Scunthorpe on Saturday night.
