THE final weekend of the British speedway season sees both Newport teams end their 2011 campaigns within 24 hours of each other at Queensway Meadows Stadium.

Mike Manning Wasps are first in action this evening at 6pm when they entertain Premier League rivals Edinburgh Monarchs in a fixture that could see the home side clinch fourth place.

Depending on the result of last night’s away fixture with Berwick Bandits, the Wasps seem almost certain to go above Somerset Rebels and into fourth position if they defeat Edinburgh.

Whether they remain there depends on the outcome of Workington Comets’ trio of matches this weekend.

A win for the Wasps will take their successive home win league and cup record to 14.

At 6pm tomorrow it's the turn of the Drillerman Hornets to bring the curtain down by hosting the combined Scunthorpe/Sheffield team which has just been crowned British National League champions.

Edinburgh will include former Newport rider Tim Webster, but the Hornets will be minus number-one heat leader Todd Kurtz and will use the rider replacement facility to cover the Australian’s absence for their final meeting.
