Fans pledge to buy back Rangers

Former Rangers defender John Brown has urged Charles Green to sell the club to supporters.

Brown, who declined to transfer his contract as a scout over to the newco, plans to lead a fans' buyout of the Sevco group. Green's consortium completed the purchase of the business and assets of Rangers for £5.5million earlier this month after the club was consigned to liquidation.

Brown told Sky Sports News: "The Rangers fans worldwide are behind this. They want to buy our club so that every fan worldwide owns their own club. Every fan will be given one vote. If they invest, we will set up a bank account and all the season-ticket money can go in there. Gone are the days of the money that we spent; it is going to be handled differently this time."

He added: "The fans are going to buy it over, we have the backing of some powerful people who are going to invest, and the fans will invest. If Charles Green says he's got the title deeds in his name, we will make an offer. We are going to get our club back but we need a bit of honesty from Charles Green."

A statement issued by the Rangers Supporters Trust read: "The RST today announces that it has been developing a vehicle which could ensure fans can be part of the club's future.

"In the interest of unity we shall be consulting with our sister fan organisations and those parties (such as John Brown's consortium) who have the long-term interests of the club at heart before a formal launch.

"The scheme we envisaged would enable supporters to join forces and purchase shares to create a bloc shareholding in the club on behalf of fans. We have been developing a model of fan investment in consultation with the relevant advisory bodies and tailoring it to the situation at Ibrox.

"We would also like to ask that all the current playing squad give the fans time to put a consortium in place whilst considering their future.

"We hope as many of them as possible will stay and become part of something historic as the world's most successful club moves forward into a new era.

"We are now in a position to call on Rangers fans from all areas of the Rangers Family with the requisite knowledge and experience to come forward to assist us in this task."
