It’s official, Rougemont’s latest Estyn report is out and the school is delighted to have received an Excellent rating in the “Standards”, “Wellbeing and Attitudes to Learning”, “Care, Support and Guidance” and “Leadership and Management” categories in the new style Estyn report.

Rougemont School was last inspected in 2012 when under the previous inspection guidelines the school was considered “among the highest performing schools in Wales”. The recent inspection confirms that the school has maintained this accolade.

Looking at all areas across the school, the inspection report was glowing in its praise of both staff and pupils in Rougemont.

“The pupils at Rougemont Schoolmake strong progress and achieve outstanding outcomes in public examinations. The school supports the wellbeing of all pupils exceptionally well. Pupils’ behaviour is exemplary and they have a highly positive attitude towards their studies. Overall, the quality of teaching is good,” the report said.

“Teachers have strong working relationships with pupils and plan interesting lessons. The co-curricular opportunities for pupils including drama, sport, music and debating are a particular strength of the school. Through purposeful leadership and a clear vision, all staff have a strong commitment to the aspiration that ‘all pupils achieve their highest potential’.”

Additional highlights included the fact that “in the senior school, over the last three years, at Key Stage 4, pupils’ performance in GCSE examinations is outstanding. Based on value addedmeasures, pupils’ performance inmany subjects exceeds expectations.”

Results at GCSE level in 2016 were in fact recordbreaking for the school. Pupils shone brightly throughout the whole inspection process, with the inspectors noting that “the behaviour of nearly all pupils in class and around the school is exemplary”.

“To achieve our excellent grades is a great achievement,” said Mr Robert Carnevale, headmaster.
“It is a true credit to the hard work of all our staff, and indeed the commitment of our pupils, that we are able to say we truly do offer excellence in the whole educational process.
“As we tell our children to aim to achieve their highest potential, so we strive for the school to do the same,” he continued.

“We continue to look to the future with our school improvement plan, a key focus to ensure both the education and environment we offer pupils and staff is the best it can be.”
