The implications of General Data Protection Regulation, which comes in to force in May this year, will be the topic of the next meeting of the City of Newport Business Club.

Dr Jackie Harris, of the University of South Wales, will be the guest speaker at the event on February 22, which will be held at the Celtic Manor Golf Club starting at 5.30pm.

GDPR replaces the Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC and was designed to bring all the data privacy laws across Europe into line with each other.

Dr Harris' experience includes working in engineering, manufacturing, and international education to software development and work-based learning companies.

She joined the university in 2003 and has since become a Fellow of the NCGE (UK) and a chartered marketer.

She uses her experience to support students and businesses to recognise and develop market opportunities. She teaches on post-graduate, professional and tailored courses in marketing, digital marketing and business development and is completing her PhD in SME marketing.

She will be providing an easy to digest explanation of what GDPR really means for business owners.
