A Newport-based retail services company is hosting its annual charity golf day this week, with the aim to raise more than £4,000 for two important charities.

Retail Merchandising Services, which is based at Langstone, will host the Peter John O’Toole Memorial Cup at Llanwern Golf Club on June 15.

This will be the event’s eighth year, with all money raised being donated to both Velindre and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Wales.

The Peter John O’Toole Cup will feature a variety of golfing competitions to aid fundraising.

The main prize will be the cup itself, and there will be a variety of other prizes including a Lexus for anyone who gets a hole-in-one on the eighteenth hole.

The event is now in its eighth year. It was originally set up by RMS’ founder Peter O’Toole, who lost his father to bowel cancer.

Peter sadly passed away in late 2015, and his son -current CEO of RMS – Daniel O’Toole continues to raise money for Velindre as he fully believes in the incredible support that they provide to their patients.

This year, Daniel also wants to support the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Wales, an amazing charity that helps more than 20,000 young people throughout Wales to realise their potential and open their horizons for real fulfilment in work and in life.

He said: “Velindre is an organisation that I hold close to my heart. I will be forever grateful for the love and support shown to my father during his final days. The Memorial Cup was originally set up to remember my grandfather. When my father passed away in 2015, we renamed the event to commemorate this brilliant man who founded our company.

"It is no coincidence that this event is taking place on the Friday before Father’s Day.

"The RMS team want to pay tribute to these two great men and remembered fathers.”

This isn’t just a day of playing golf. At its core, it is a special day to remember loved and lost ones, and raising money for incredibly worthwhile causes. It also allows the two sons to take a step back from the intense task of running RMS and reflect on how far the company has progressed over the last decade. From humble beginnings in South East Wales, to the respected international brand it is today, RMS has come a long way.

Yet, RMS will always be a ‘people-focused’ company, and the Annual Memorial Cup is the perfect platform to embrace the local business community and give something back to it.
