The Offas Dyke footpath is a 177 mile National Trail footpath that closely follows the England/Wales border. It opened in 1971 from Prestatyn to Chepstow with Knighton sitting at the half way point with a visitors centre. Knighton has good facilities including a Leisure Centre, a hardware store, butchers, music shop hotel and unique café's. There is also the famous Harry Tuffins supermarket. A livestock market is still held in the town and there are rugby, football and golf clubs as well as many other social clubs. The town is famous for having one foot in Wales (Powys) and one foot in England (Shropshire) the boundary being the River Teme so the view from Brackenway is part English part Welsh. Llanfair Waterdine is located 4.5 miles up the valley and is the parish most linked with Brackenway with many welcoming activities centering on the Everest Hall (named after the local hero Lord Hunt who conquered Everest in 1953).
