Philip Laney & Jolly are delighted to bring this stunning Grade II listed house to the market. This property needs some restoration but retains some beautiful features of the past few centuries including period fireplaces, wonderful cornicing, wood panelling, chandeliers, shutters and much much more. It is set in approx 2 acres of beautifully maintained gardens which have been open & enjoyed by the public over many years. The property briefly comprises of 7 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, drawing room, dining room, kitchen with separate pantry & utility, library/study, large attic space & extensive cellarage. There is also a separate coach house with garages and sheds on the ground floor and 2 rooms above. EPC - EXEMPT.

Steeped in history, above a doorway of Barnards Green House is the date 1635, and the date is also inscribed on a beam inside the house, making it one of the oldest houses in Malvern. No doubt the original building has been extended more than once. A plaque on the wall outside records that the house was once the home of Sir Charles Hastings MD (1794 - 1866), a surgeon of Worcester Hospital, who was a founder of the British Medical Association.

Barnards Green House was later occupied by Charles' son George Woodyatt Hastings (1825 - 1917) who is buried in the churchyard of St Mary Guarlford, with his first wife Catherine who died in 1871.

The Ground floor has 2 entrances with a main entrance leading into a hallway with 2 arched doorways, one leading into an impressive drawing room with a bay window overlooking the rear garden and the Malvern hills, decorative cornicing and an imposing fireplace and the other leading into to an equally impressive library/study with a range of oak shelving, panelling and a large ornate fireplace.

The second entrance which is more to the rear of the property entering via the courtyard area mainly leads to the present house keepers accommodation which consists of a sitting room, kitchen, bathroom and shower room. The hall at this end of the house also leads to the main kitchen which is made up of 50's vintage rose units and a sizeable dining room. There is also a shower room on this level and a doorway leading down to the cellars.

Barnards Green house has two staircases to the first floor. The main staircase leads up from the main hall and the second staircase leads from the rear hall. The 7 double bedrooms are all on the first floor including the main bedroom which has its own dressing area and en suite bathroom. The other six bedrooms all have hand wash basins and built-in wardrobes and several of them also have dual aspect windows providing various lovely views of the surrounding gardens and Malvern Hills. Also on the first floor is a separate bathroom and an ironing room.

A separate building from the main house providing 2 large garages with double doors and several store sheds & a potting shed. On the ground floor, with 2 empty store rooms on the first floor with potential to form a coach house/apartment.

NB: The Coach House has lapsed planning consent for a 3 bedroom dwelling (architects plans available on request).

With a magnificent backdrop of the Malvern Hills, this old-fashioned garden is a plantsman's paradise. The main feature is a magnificent cedar. But is surrounded by 3 herbaceous and 2 shrub borders, a rose garden, red and white and yellow borders, an evergreen and hydrangea bed, 2 rockeries, a pond, sculptures and a vegetable garden.

There is a rear courtyard off Poolbrook road providing parking for several cars and access to the garages.
