SITUATED in the centre of Chester, Hotel Indigo is a short walk from the city’s most historic features including the country’s largest amphitheatre, the Eastgate Clock, and the city walls, parts of which have been preserved since the Roman era.

The boutique hotel’s premium Grosvenor Suite is designed with a fine, Art Deco touch and comes with a spa-like ensuite, complimentary beverages, and a private balcony.

Downstairs the Wood Chester Bar and Restaurant, which is owned and managed by MasterChef winner, Simon Wood, offers a selection of exquisite and finely executed dishes in a cool and elegant setting.

The assiette of lamb, served on a bed of goat’s cheese and fresh cabbage, and lightly topped with a rich gravy, is best enjoyed with a side of creamy Dauphinoise Potato.

Accompanying our meal were a complimentary board of freshly baked sourdough and charcoaled crackers filled with a smoked eel moose.

The restaurant’s most memorable feature was its breakfast menu, which included hot English favourites alongside a buffet-style continental table with muesli, freshly squeezed juices, and a selection of breads and pastries.

Hotel Indigo is also an ideal base for curious sightseers.

An afternoon stroll of the city should begin at Grosvenor Park, a vibrant and lively expanse which overlooks the River Dee.

Take the trail westward towards the Roman gardens, then follow the river to Chester Castle and the country’s oldest racecourse.

Head north towards Chester Market where you can visit Bookingham Place, the city’s only independent book shop, grab lunch at one – or several – of the hall’s delicious eateries, and wash it down with a crisp pint at That Beer Place – a tap room which sells around 300 different beers.

Situated to the south of Chester Market are the Rows – a set of covered, medieval walkways with entrances to boutique shops, restaurants, and pubs. Found throughout the city centre, the Rows are a quaint and historic feature of Chester's high street.

With rooms from £77 per night, Hotel Indigo Chester offers a chic and lavish getaway in a city which is layered with history.
