SITUATED on the High Street in Blackwood, the New Foresters has been a longstanding fixture as one of the most popular nightspots of the town.

And during the day, it is home to Dawn’s Diner.

Once inside the decor is warm and welcoming, with very friendly bar staff, and appetising delectable smells emerging from the kitchen.

My husband ordered the lamb shank with chips and vegetables, whereas I opted for the steak pie, chips and vegetables.

We were suitably impressed when our meals arrived.

They were adorned with home cooked chips, which is a rarity in restaurants these days, and the meals were of a susbstantial portion.

The lamb was tender and tasty, accompanied by a minted gravy and peas. The home made steak pie had a delicious pastry top, and was filled with chunky steak, carrots and onions.

It was honest home cooked wholesome food.

The menu offered a decent selection, with most meals around £5-£6, and an OAP special selection offering a two course meal for £4.95 There are plenty of car parks in Blackwood town, and so this venue would be easily accessable to all.
