Rock of Ages
New Theatre, Cardiff
The New Theatre was bouncing on Monday night with the classic sounds of 1980s Rock Music as the tour of Rock of Ages musical opened in Cardiff. Full of many classic song like Wanted Dean or Alive, The Final Countdown and We Build This City the band showed they were all ready for a good evening before the show started as they were playing along to the backing music while waiting for the slightly late start.
As the narrator Stephen Rahman-Hughes guided the audience through the story of the show including some hilarious comic sections, a definite delight on a cold Autumn night. Noel Sullivan was outstanding in the role of Drew his voice commanding the audience’s attention every time he was on stage and Ben Richards’ Stacie Jaxx was outrageous and I loved every minute he was on stage, I wished he could have been on stage more.
The rest of the cast were just as good as the three mentioned above, it’s so hard to single anyone out. I also really liked the choreography in show as it helped to explain which venue you were in, eg Pub versus Strip Joint. Throughout the evening the atmosphere in the Theatre built and built until by the end of the show almost everyone were on their feet.
Rock of Ages continues at the New Theatre Cardiff until Saturday 11th October 2014.
