ORBIT Theatre gave it their all for their new production of West Side Story at the New Theatre.

Telling the story of rival teenage gangs, the Jets and the Sharks, you watch as they both compete for the control of their neighbourhood in the Upper West Side of New York City. However, with two youngsters Maria (Millie Davies) and Tony (Aled Davies) from the rival gangs falling love, tensions between the groups ends in tragedy.

The narrative of this show is portrayed enthusiastically immersing the audience into its tragic tale with a mix of drama, dance and music.

Whilst dancing scenes were slightly clumpy and disorganised at times, the whole theatre crew worked tirelessly to bring this well known show to life.

Songs like Maria, America, I Feel Pretty were all sang to a good standard with the audience enjoying the classic melodies.

Anita (Mels Holdsworth) must be mentioned for her acting and singing playing her fiery and bold character spot on.

But the shining star of the show was Maria. Her Puerto Rican accent was brilliant and she stole the audience away with her singing.

This is an enjoyable tribute to West Side Story. The show continues at the New Theatre until Saturday.
