What does the man who has everything (practically) do to celebrate turning 40?
He joins Instagram, that’s what he does.
We’re talking of course about none other than David Beckham. The football star is celebrating turning the big four-o today and marked the occasion by joining Instagram.
Alongside his first picture, he posted the message: “Good morning and hello! It’s great to finally be on Instagram, been a long time coming but I can’t wait to start sharing all my special moments with you.
“Thank you for all your birthday messages so far. Looking forward to a great day with friends and family x.”
The former Manchester United player has more than 1.8 million followers only hours after joining the social media site.
He’s clearly got the hang of the site quickly as he posted a series of pictures, with the caption to the one below reading: “I feel very spoilt this morning! #DB40.”
His wife Victoria confirmed the family is spending David’s big day in Marrakech, by posting a picture with the caption: “So excited to be spending this special day with David and the kids in Marrakech! Welcome to Instagram @DavidBeckham! x vb #DB40.”
Earlier in the week, Victoria used her Twitter account to hint at David’s birthday plans, posting a picture of a dress and even giving the event its own hashtag – #DB40.
She also posted a picture with the caption: “So excited to be celebrating David’s birthday x #DB40″
Among the friends likely to be joining Beckham for the big day is Dave Gardner, a football agent who met him when they were team-mates in the Manchester United youth set-up, and Gardner’s girlfriend, US actress Liv Tyler.
Beckham shares his birthday today with singer Lily Allen (who’s turning 30), designer Donatella Versace (who’s turning 60) and, of course, the royal baby if he or she’s born today.
