FAMILY AND friends of motorist Phillip Bath held a vigil last on Friday close to the road where the 29-year-old died.
Mr Bath, 29, from the Coed Cae estate in Nantyglo, died after his Peugeot car was involved in a crash with two motorbikes, with the rider of one, Glyndwr John Evans, also killed in the collision on the A465 Heads of the Valleys road on October 27.
An altar was erected on a decked area just outside the Drum and Monkey pub in Blackrock, which overlooks the make-shift shrine of floral tributes laid to the popular Mr Bath, also known to his friends as Kinky.
Two clergymen, Pastor Howard Foster and the Vicar of St Mary’s the Virgin Church in Brynmawr, led the informal congregation which included Mr Bath’s brothers, in prayer and a short reading.
Some of the flowers from the road-side shrine had been moved to the foot of the altar.
Around 40 people attended the solemn vigil which was opened by Father Marc Winchester.
He said: "We are here because we love someone. We respected them and we want to show our respect to them."
Members of Mr Bath's family comforted each other as prayers were read for 'those that have died and those that are mourning.’ The vigil ended as the assembled group recited the Lord's Prayer.
Heart warming messages continue to flood in for Mr Bath.
A tribute site set up on Facebook called "RIP Phillip Bath Let Memories Live On" has now amassed more than 600 members, with a huge number of pictures and tributes being posted.
One of those posting, 20-year-old Patrick Lewis from Blaina uploaded a picture of a tattoo he has had done to remember Mr Bath.
The design encompasses a large winged cross with the words "Loving Memory’ above it and simply "Phillip" below.
A 24-YEAR-OLD man from Abergavenny has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, while two other men, a 21-year-old from the Brynmawr area and a 22-year-old from the Blaina area were arrested on suspicion of aiding and abetting dangerous driving.
All three have been released on bail pending further investigations.
